This is a painful WWII novel to read. Yes, it is wonderful, well written, sweet, and so many other good things but it's painful since it's complete fiction and there was no such true story as the one in this one, but I love it. Esther is a favorite book of the Bible, retellings are a favorite, and anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with all WWII facts, so together? I loved it. Some of the romantic content was a little much for me though it was okay. If you like reading about WWII you must read this book, as with all other books by Kate Breslin, she is one of my favorite need to read authors.

Clare Danner thought things were finally going her way. She had a stable job as a hospital orderly, a home for herself & her daughter Daisy, and a man she was beginning to trust enough to spend the rest of her life with. However, an unscheduled lunch in the park turns into disaster as Clare watches Marcus, the love of her life, propose to another woman. Reeling from this incident, Clare throws herself into her work and discovers a more traumatic despair: Daisy's father has died and left her his inheritance...and his parents want to remove Daisy from Clare's custody & raise her. Clare has nowhere to turn and can only trust her friends to help her fight to keep Daisy. But those friends ask a high price of her in return - Marcus has been injured in the war, lost his memory, and needs constant care. Can Clare help the war effort by helping Marcus to remember his mission's details? Can Clare help Marcus regain his memory in time to help her keep Daisy? Can Clare keep her sanity while caring for Marcus with his new fiancée at his side? Or will time run out for all of them and result in the loss of love, family, and freedom?

This was a REALLY good book (my description does not do it justice). I could not put it down and read it in 2 sittings. Thank you so much LibraryThing for the Early Reviewer copy! I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Ms. Breslin!

In Love's Time is Kate Breslin's latest book and it's definitely one to read again. Breslin sets this WWI story in both Russia and London, and she once again weaves intriguing historical details into her fictional plot. Captain Marcus Weatherford is the focus of this story that's filled with action and danger, as his efforts to find some of the royal Romanov family catapult him into a dangerous mission that leaves him wounded, with amnesia. Will he regain the memories that he's lost? Can he help the two people who were once so dear to him?

This exciting adventure kept me turning the pages, but the addition of faith, hope, and forgiveness are what made this so memorable for me. My heartstrings were tugged by Clare Danner's struggle to keep her young daughter Daisy, but it was her total commitment to Marcus, and her strong faith in God, that truly touched my heart. In Love's Time is an impressive historical Christian romance and I look forward to more books by Breslin. She never fails to transport me to another time and place!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

I knew I’d love In Love’s Time before I even read one page beneath the beautiful cover because I’ve adored everything I’ve read by Kate Breslin. I love her writing style and the heart behind it. One special feature in this book is that Jack and Grace (from Not by Sight) are secondary characters I loved ‘seeing’ again.

I haven’t read many stories that include settings of London and Russia and enjoyed being transported there. But the main aspect of a story that pulls me in are the characters, and Marcus and Claire certainly did that. They felt authentic and were easy to love. And oh, my do I love a starting over/second chance story.

The tension was spot on, I loved the focus on faith, and the emotions and romance are believable and satisfying. And revisiting characters from previous books is like revisiting old friends.

“We’ve all faced one obstacle or another in our lives, but those hard things prepare us for greater challenges.”

Set in England and Russia in 1918, In Love’s Time by talented author Kate Breslin gives us the story of Captain Marcus Weatherford and Clare Danner. When Marcus is sent on a dangerous secret mission to Russia with a ballerina named Natalya posing as his fiancée, miscommunications occur and Clare is crushed. Marcus returns injured with memory loss, and Clare is tasked with helping him recover his health and memory.

From the back cover blurb, I was expecting more of the story to take place in Russia, but the vast majority of the story was set in England, so I felt the blurb was a little misleading. I love historical fiction, because I learn about little slices of history while enjoying a good story, and this novel was no exception. The author’s notes in the back of the book were very interesting and helpful in understanding some of the events and circumstances of the time.

The characters are well-drawn and engaging, the writing flows smoothly, and the story kept me turning pages. With plenty of intrigue, suspense, romance, and inspiration, this story should appeal to those who enjoy clean historical romance. While Breslin’s books aren’t labeled as a series, there are some characters that are interconnected and show up in her other books. 4.5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers. All opinions are my own.½

Although I enjoy many historical time periods, this author always captures my interest with her WWI tales. Full of romantic difficulties, a country estate, spies and political intrigue, this is one of the best of its genre.
Marcus works for the Admiralty during the war and goes on danger missions for his country. While he loves Clare and her daughter, he wants to protect them so keeps certain things secret. After an unfortunate injury, he struggles to remember the recent past. With Clare as his nurse, he makes slow but steady progress. But will it be enough and in time to prevent calamity? Confused and conflicted, could he be falling in love with Clare all over again?
Ms Breslin immersed me in the era and made me care about Clare and Marcus as well as his family and the injured soldiers at his estate. The scenes in the conservatory with sister Fanny and Lieutenant Ainsley were refreshing and hinted at another story. With all the turmoil, the characters still conveyed their faith in God and strove to rely on Him for the answers to their life-altering situations.

Oh my,this is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. Our hearts know even if our mind can’t remember. I absolutely loved the well developed characters, the poetic way it read like watching a beautiful ballet in perfect timing. It had just enough intrigue to keep you captivated and turning pages to see the outcome. The historical details were fascinating and the Faith elements woven in like a tapestry. This novel touched my heart deeply and left me wanting it to never end. It tugs on your heartstrings and makes you want good friends like Clare and Marcus had. So many beautiful moments that I give this a stellar rating of 10 stars if allowed. Run don’t walk to put this in your own Christmas stocking.

The novel begins in the summer of 1918. The war had been going on for several years but there is still a great need to find out what is going on in Russia and how it will affect the rest of the world. The Russian Czar and his family have disappeared but there is information that supports that the wife and son of the Czar have been seen. To get more information, Captain Marcus Weatherford is sent to Russia with a former Russian ballerina playing the role of his finance. No one in his family or his girlfriend, Clare, knew that he is working undercover for the British government. Marcus and Clare had been dating for a long time and she was shocked when she inadvertently saw him give a ring to the ballerina. She felt betrayed by him and threw herself into her work as an orderly at a hospital to survive the heartbreak of losing him. When she finds out that he's returned to his family estate but is suffering from amnesia she agrees to travel to the estate to help take care of him. Will he regain his memory and be able to share his information with his superiors? Will he remember that he was in love with Clare and not the Russian ballerina who wears his engagement ring? Will Clare and Marcus get their happy ending?

Along with the main plot about Clare and Marcus, there are several other sub plots that are very interesting. The grandparents of Clare's daughter who are rich and powerful want to raise the child and the chance of losing her daughter is devastating to Clare. There is also a plot about Marcus's sister who had polio as a child and meets someone who loves her for the person she is.

This is a great novel about family in the midst of war, doing one's duty despite the danger and the feelings of the family, betrayal and getting through the worst of times by trusting in God that all will be well. I highly recommend this fantastical WWI novel.

Be sure to read the author's notes at the end of the book to learn more about the actual events that she based her story on. She did extensive research and it's apparent on every page of the novel.

NOTE: This book is about some of the same characters as one of her earlier books - Not By Sight. You can read this as a standalone (like I did) but I wish I'd have read Not by Sight first to get more of the back story on Marcus and Clare. However, not having the back story on these two characters didn't diminish my enjoyment of In Love's Time.

In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin is a sequel-of-sorts to the author’s earlier novel Not by Sight featuring Jack and Grace Benningham. This couple appears in supporting roles throughout In Love’s Time while Clare and Marcus (side characters in Not by Sight) become the focus couple. From what I gather, the initial love story of Clare and Marcus is told in Not by Sight.

In Love’s Time continues Clare and Marcus’ romantic relationship by pulling from both the love triangle and second-chance romance tropes. My favorite portion of the novel resides in the middle where betrayal and yearning tangle to create great romantic tension between Marcus and Clare. I liked the reunification of these wonderful characters, but often felt I was missing pieces of their story as I haven’t read Not by Sight.

In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin held my attention throughout. I noted the narrative’s historical detail and learned a bit of Britain’s history during the WW1 time. The author’s note supplied some interesting historical information as well as references. Readers who have enjoyed Breslin’s previous novels, especially Not by Sight, will find In Love’s Time a lovely story of secrets, resilience, and romance. I look forward to rereading this novel after I’ve had a chance to read Not by Sight.

While In Love's Time, a WWI era novel, got off to a slow start and sounded a bit stilted, it seemed as if both the author and I became more engaged with the story and its characters as we went along. The plot was good, fairly original, and developed a level of tension that kept me reading. The angst created by the injustices done to Clare Danner and her daughter Daisy, and the situation that kept Clare and Captain Sir Marcus Weatherford apart is intense. The theme of surrendering oneself fully into God's care rather than leaning on one's own understanding is well developed. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Next in the series. It's not necessary to read the first one, but it's a great story you would wish to read. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, at least that's what's true for Clare, and is one of God's lessons. She's an unwed mother who had her baby taken away. Marcus got her baby back. Now she's closer to a life with Marcus but his secret spy work for MI6 takes him away again, in a way that leaves her in pieces. Tense, twisted, heart wrenching love story with an interesting conclusion. Follows some of the history during WW1 that's quite intriguing. Good Christian values. Characters to get attached to.

I loved this story of love, faith and hope. I loved that this story takes place during WWl. I loved Marcus and Clare and Daisy. I enjoyed that this brought back characters from a previous book. I love that many of these characters learn a lesson from each other. I could not put this book down and it made me laugh and cry. I loved the romance. I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I won a copy of this book through LibraryThing and I am freely giving my honest review.
I truly enjoyed this book. It was a fun read and I liked most of the characters. Of course, there is the bad guy in the story and even this one isn't horrid. The background of the story is WW2 but it's really not about the war.
What I did not like about the book was that when the story went from one scene to another there was no break and it really threw me. You'd be reading about two people having a conversation in one area and the next thing you know it's someone else in a totally different location. Hopefully, this will be fixed when it is published.
If you like Christian, historical fiction you will enjoy this book. It is Christian without being preachy, just shows faith at work.
I give this a solid 4 star review.

Wow! Kate Breslin has done it again. I stayed up way too late because I could not put this down. So excited to get Captain Marcus Weatherford’s story! I’ve long been waiting for him to get a happily ever after ending and boy does this deliver. But, it’s a down to the last minute struggle to get there. Though Marcus’ story is briefly touched on in previous books, this book can definitely be read as a standalone.

In 1918 England, the world is at war. Working for the British Admiralty, Marcus undergoes the most dangerous missions. He’s been in love with Clare Danner for over a year and though he’d love nothing more than to commit to her and her sweet two year old daughter, the risks he takes prevent him from asking her to marry him.

Marcus’ next mission requires him to travel to Russia with a former Russian ballerina posing as his fiancée. Natalya is one of the few the British government trusts to identify the Romanov Tsarina and her son who supposedly escaped assassination. Unfortunately, Marcus can’t tell anyone the engagement is fake, not even Clare. Clare witnesses him giving Natalya an engagement ring in the park, and is completely devastated. When the operation in Russia goes south, Marcus returns to England barely escaping death, but with amnesia. He wakes up to a fiancée and friends he can’t remember, including Clare

Clare’s finally got a good position as a supervising hospital orderly when she’s asked to care for Marcus at his family’s estate with the hope she can jog his memory. She’s fighting to keep Daisy from her grandparents and needs Marcus to remember so he can testify on her behalf. It’s also apparent Natalya is taking the fake engagement too far. Will Marcus remember before it’s too late?

Loved both Marcus & Clare! Their second chance romance was achingly heart wrenching. Normally, I hate miscommunication, but this was so well done. Marcus tries so hard to remember and can’t understand why he’s drawn to Clare. But, his fiancée Natalya has made him dependent on her. He’s slowly remembering, but it’s frustratingly slow.

Meanwhile, Clare still loves Marcus desperately and can’t understand why he betrayed her with Natalya. It doesn’t help that Natalya flaunts her engagement in Clare’s face. She’s in an untenable situation as she needs Marcus to remember but can’t afford to push him too hard. The admiralty also desperately needs him to remember the intelligence he gathered before he was shot.

Both Clare & Marcus have deep issues with trust & faith. It all comes down to the wire when they must let go of their own wills & learn to trust in God. There are so many twists and turns, and just when I thought things were working out another wrench was thrown into the story. While I pegged the villain early on, it was still satisfying to see everything play out. The side characters are also enjoyable. I loved the side romance between Marcus’ sister Fannie & a wounded soldier. It’s a heartfelt beautiful historical romance, with a touch of suspense you’ll definitely want to put on your TBR list! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author and publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

"I have learned one cannot wait for the perfect moment to fulfill a dream. One must act despite all and embrace what the heart holds dear."

I have always enjoyed Kate Breslin's books and the intense espionage and intrigue in them. Her newest absolutely fulfilled my expectation and more. Though this book connects quite a few characters from her previous books (in particular, "Not by Sight"), it can be read as a stand-alone. Brimming with intrigue, tender romance, heartache, and faith, the book will captivate and enthrall any reader who loves historical romance.

Finally getting to see Captain Marcus Weatherford up close and personal was a pleasure. He's been a stalwart, faithful secondary character in the author's WWI books and I loved his character thoroughly, even if I didn't agree with some of his decisions. Clare was a lovable heroine, rising above her humiliation and thriving as a single mother and an orderly in a hospital. Learning about a military hospital run by an all-women staff during the war was quite fascinating. Marcus' amnesia allowed for a fresh restart to his relationship with Clare and gave the reader a glimpse into their fun, witty, tender, all-encompassing bond.
It was interesting to see the events unfold through Natalya, Jack, and Fannie's eyes as well. And Fannie's delightful romance with Peter was an added bonus.

I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

We have all faced one obstacle or another in our lives, but those hard things prepare us for greater challenges.

The author has given us another wonderful WWI story with incredible detail and plenty of intrigue. Captain Sir Marcus Weatherford is in the Royal Navy and loaned to the Intelligence Service. His lady love, a widow with a young daughter, has his heart, but he has decided that duty and love do not mix.

Amnesia puts one in a place of vulnerability, leaving the other to try and pick up the pieces. Secret passageways, spies and more will keep you attempting to figure out if this can possibly end happily for anyone. Are any of them ready for the challenge?

This early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

This story was quite different than I expected. I requested it because of the description which indicated that Marcus was sent on a mission to Russia to find surviving members of the Romanov family. Though I knew from history there would be nobody to find, it sounded like a fascinating premise. Unfortunately, the actual mission was such a tiny portion of the story that the description almost felt misleading.

As for the characters, it took me a long time to believe Clare loved Marcus. She seemed determined to believe the worst about him, it was repeatedly stated that she was only helping him because of the assistance she hoped he could give her, and when she saw the severity of his wounds, rather than relief or gratitude that he had survived, she expressed only annoyance that Jack had kept things a secret. At least at the end I did believe her love.

As for Marcus, due to his circumstances for most of the story, I didn't feel I got to know him very well. Despite this, the author was able to demonstrate clear character growth on his part here.

More than Clare and Marcus though, I enjoyed seeing the relationship build between Fannie and Peter.

Thank you LibraryThing and NetGalley for the early read.

REAL LOVE CONQUERS ALL!

At the height of WWI, one couple’s love will be tested against all odds. They will have to overcome espionage, a Russian Ballerina with covert intelligence information who is also trying to run a scam betrothal, government interference, family secrets, and a head injury resulting in amnesia. These are only some of the problems that author Kate Breslin has thought up for her two main characters! And these characters, are delightful! Readers will find themselves wanting the two of them to find their way back to each other-in spite of all of the odds. The supporting characters are perfect as well and are made up of family and friends. Breslin has planted some serious villains and readers will want them to get their due! This is a thoroughly enjoyable book and will keep your attention from start to finish.

What a wonderful read to get lost in. It quickly became a page turner, and yes, I did read the first book in this series, also a great read, but except for some recurring characters, this can be read alone!

The pages flew, I needed answers, and knowing the facts, wanted to smack the Russian ballernia, but you need to keep turning those pages!

Filled with intrigue, danger, suspense, and throw in a bit of sweet romance! I loved this read, when I turned the last page, I wanted more!

Be sure to read the author's notes at the end!
