This is a graphic novel that follows the life a fiction Canadian teenager Wally as he faces the Great Depression and prairie Dust Bowl in the 1930's as the world heads to war. Smitten by a young woman named Winnie in his town who just happens to be the favourite girl of his very popular brother, he stands aside thinking the young woman is out of his reach.

When war arrives and things go badly for the Allies, Wally joins the Royal Canadian Navy and serves on the corvette, HMCS Sackville protecting convoys of ships sailing to Europe. The art work and text illustrates life aboard a Canadian corvette bouncing around the North Atlantic dodging German U-Boats.
