this is an excellent issue of SS&D packed with inspiring articles for weaving and spinning. Marcy starts the issue out with Right from the Start where she explains how to calculate sett in your reed in your head, no more reed chart! Then Stephanie ups the clothing section by showing you how to add braided embellishments to clothing, there are lots of pointers for styling and your technique. Followed by an article about an exhibit titled 'Pricked: Extreme Embroidery', not the best read but it draws attention to new ideas which is always wonderful. Next is an article discusses the use of electronics in fabrics which is my favorite subject so I'm probably biased on how awesome this issue is. Then we learn tips for weaving with bamboo, an unconventional approach to spinning worsted yarns, and a very well written article about spinning mohair fibers. Finally, triaxial weaving is introduced and provides 2 projects to help wrap your brain around this very mosaic like artform. Overall, excellent issue worth every penny!… (altro)

Lots of great articles in this issue. Marci Petrini's 'Right from the start' talks about loom maintenance, choke ties, and heddles. Discussion of one of Berta Frey's garments and an introduction to WeaveCast are fun reads. The learning exchange articles cover great topics including spinning bamboo & alpaca, and reading weaving drafts pre-20th century. The article on hems for handwoven garments is fantastic, and the motifs article is very inspiring. Two artists are featured in this issue; Kyoung Ae Cho & Marcel Marcois both with an eye for natural calmness. Kyoung Ae Cho uses many different mediums, like wood, paper, and leftovers. Marcel Marcois uses tapestry to express complex images. Finally, the issue ends with lots of ideas for simple and fun crafts for kids.… (altro)
