Lucie goes searching for her missing handkerchiefs and stumbles upon a door in a hill where she discovers an odd little laundress with prickles on under her cap.

Though some children may be deterred by the classic story’s now old fashioned language, such as pocket handkin and pinny, others will still enjoy the wordplay and nonsense in the story. The cozy tale of animals that wear fancy clothing and hide away in miniature houses will appeal to child audiences.

The $0.99 version of the Kindle e-book is an authorized version that includes illustrations. According to the product page, color illustrations are available for devices that support color; this reviewer’s Kindle does not. The black and white illustrations are still quite nice, with delicate variations in shading that stay true to the original illustrations’ character. Unfortunately, illustrations cannot be enlarged.

One drawback to the Kindle e-book version is that the screen views alternate between illustrations and text; they are never seen together. A print version would display text on one side and an illustration across, creating more visual appeal for children while reading.… (altro)
