This book is somewhat interesting in that the writer is from India and it seems to be published abroad (I'm American). It contains mental math tricks and rules of thumb to accomplish feats of mental arithmetic. It also contains algorithms for finding perfect cube roots, finding perfect square roots, multiplying large numbers together and other impressive things. Apparently this man runs seminars where he shows off mental arithmetic to get people excited about his talks. Pretty neat I must say...

This book is set up so that you are meant to follow along, but I didn't participate in the exercises. It goes in depth in how to calculate some things and gives plenty of worked examples. I merely wanted a passing knowledge of the techniques in here, and that was readily obtained. Since I am used to the method I learned in school, it was difficult to follow what he was doing to those numbers most of the time, but he goes step by step to explain his work initially, and then goes and does examples.

I will read it again, or supplement it with some more examples of Vedic Mathematics.

Parlor tricks and rules of thumb. Some have narrow application, and a few are more universal.

I did learn that digital roots, or "digit-sums" as Bathia calls them have "immense utility for practitioners of Numerology and other occult sciences."

Yes. he called them "sciences". Almost got one star for that.
