Being a life-and-times of baseball pioneer Al G. Spalding, originally an ace pitcher during a short playing career but more important as a team owner and league operative during the last years of the nineteenth century. This book is written very simply and directly, making it a great pleasure to read. Although there are many other books about both Spalding and the early game which are much more analytical and insightful, still it would be a jaded enthusiast of the period who did not discover a few pieces of information which are new to them.… (altro)
