Here are recipes from the Food Network’s uber-popular ultimate challenge. And, yes, as fans of the show will attest, the guest chefs sometimes bested celebrity chef and restauranteur Bobby Flay.

Through seven seasons [a complete episode list is included], challengers brought their special recipes to the show; selected recipes are presented here, along with full-color photographs and behind-the-scenes peeks from the episodes. In each section, recipes from both Bobby and the challenger are included.

A representative sampling of recipe categories includes chowder, breakfast, cocktails, mac’ ‘n’ cheese, cupcakes, crepes, lasagna, grilled cheese, seafood gumbo, paella, ravioli, shrimp and grits, steak fajitas, and barbeque chicken and potato salad.

In addition, there are pages devoted to one of the two original pilots [with national barbeque champion Butch Lupinetti] that are sure to delight Throwdown! fans. In all, this book contains more than one hundred recipes from the Throwdown! show.

Highly recommended.

This cookbook is not meant to be one you reach for every day. It targets a specific audience- omnivores looking for a junk food hit. It gives classic recipes and creative spins on old favorites. Try the sweet potato fries.

This cookbook made me want to go to Bar Americain to eat all the delicious food, but I'm not nearly as inclined to find and prepare the 15 ingredients every recipe requires.

You've seen the show, here are the recipes. I remember the mac and cheese throwdown. Who doesn't love mac & cheese, the utlimate comfort food. Don't even think about trying this recipe if you are dieting. It must be 2000 calories. After reading the recipes, I actually prefer some of Flay's reworks of the classics. If you want tried and true, like mom's home cooking, go for the restaurant version.

Food Network Iron Chef Bobby Flay offers another title on using the grill for a variety of food preparations. Early pages give the basics of proper grilling technique, regardless of whether you use Gas or Coal. Later chapters are divided by food type (Corn, Seafood, Pork, Beef, etc). Flay's idea is to use the book as a reference once you've decided what you want to grill but aren't sure quite how you want to make it. Recipes range from simplistic to the more eclectic gourmet, but all are appropriate for simple dinners with the family to dinner parties with friends where you'd like to impress with your grilling acumen. Flay provides short narration in addition to the recipes, which are accompanied by attractive photos. This is a helpful guide for anyone who grills regularly (and 80% of Americans own at least one kind of grill).
