Book 2, it helps to read the first book to understand the characters and their relationship, but the story itself works as a standalone. Luella is cursed with magic ever since she received the pen from Bram, and in search for a cure while her relationship with Edward is put to the test. The story follows Luella and is told from her point of view. The narrative is descriptive and readers gain an in-depth perspective into Luella's state of mind.

Luella is dealing with her romantic and professional life when she is gifted a pen from Bram and she writes a novel with ambiguous characters and settings. However, her writing translates into reality and Luella doesn't understand how. It doesn't occur to Luella the truth behind the pen since she doesn't believe in magic, so she isn't deterred from writing more stories. But she'll find the pen does more than just bring fiction to life. The story follows Luella and is told from her point of view. The narrative is descriptive and readers gain an in-depth perspective into Luella's state of mind.

The story is an alternative historical account of WWI, with magical elements. The chapters switch between Marcus and Jane so readers gain insight behind the characters as well as both sides of the story. The story is character-driven, delving into the lives of Marcus and Jane.

I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily.
