Oliver M. Ashford

Richardson (1881-1953), an English meteorologist, was an ahead-of-his-time pioneer of numerical weather forecasting and peace research. He applied mathematics (with statistical analysis and differential equations) to the causes of war. (Wars seem to be like earthquakes or asteroid impacts in that the logarithm of their lethality varies inversely with their frequency, with essentially no limit on how calamitous they can be.
