Joe Anderson's familiarity with music and what goes on behind the scenes adds the perfect texture and layers to this story. The characters are so realistic, I felt like I was hanging out with a bunch of rock stars rather than sitting on my couch holding my Kindle.

The book opens in present time, with the flawed but lovable rock star Zack Fluett telling us about his latest predicament. Then we move back in time, to when his music career began. The flashes to present day continue but it's never distracting. The time line is easy to follow, and the tension builds together until the story lines merge.

Even if you've never wanted to hang out with rock stars, there is much to love about this book. The humor and bad boy antics are offset by Zack's introspective moments, his understanding of his own failings, and his continued love for the woman who got away. This book had me laughing out loud, made me stop and reflect on my own life, and even had me misty-eyed a time or two. I hope this is only the first of many more books by Joe Anderson.
