This is one of that series of what I call 'cafe books.' Wayne Alred and Ben Goode are obviously pseudonyms. The books are short and can be opened at random, and sample copies are distributed at casual sit-down independent restaurants so that the diners have something with which to pass the time while waiting for their food. I read this entire one while waiting at Meadowcliff resort's restaurant - staff was rushing to fill a large short-notice to-go order in this RV park near Walker, California.

Some bits were somewhat humorous, but the book is nothing I'd buy or recommend. Fortunately, it wasn't quite as mean-spirited as the title implies.
