A fluffy slice of life about a cute daddy-daughter duo cooking food with the help of a friendly student. As everyone else has said, nothing of consequence really happens, and at least for me the characters weren't engaging enough to keep me invested. Probably won't read more.
I also am not into the art style, which often hit me as more pornographic than cutesy. There's just a lot of drooling and blushing, which in theory might make sense for a sweet food-based manga, but often came off as 2/3 of the way to ahegao.

I would like to thanks Netgalley for proving me an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved reading this manga, I did find the beginning of the manage a little slow but after this the story picked up pace and the mystery surrounding the princess and her home it was a cute but great read. The art in this book is amazing and I will definitely be carrying on with this series!

Since his father’s death, Ichiro Kuga has had the responsibility to raise his younger brother and sister. With a small job as a mangaka, he struggles with keeping up the deadlines and earning enough money to support himself and his family. When his publisher proposes to hire him an assistant, Ichiro is overjoyed as he will be finally able to finish all the work in time. Shiori Goshiki is very competent, she is gorgeous and she doesn’t ask for a big salary. Is the dream too beautiful to be true ? Yes, maybe.

A Galaxy Next Door is a sweet romantic comedy about a princess, not totally human, who wishes to discover what a normal life looks like. As she has never left her island before, she has no idea what a commun life is, which generates many fun misunderstandings. Shiori is a naive and cute character, and I really enjoyed the dynamic with the other main protagonist, Ichiro Kuga.

I quite enjoyed this first book of the series. It is a light read with appealing characters and an interesting story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Ichiro Kuga has struggled to support his two younger siblings on nothing but a small inheritance and his passion for drawing manga. His last two assistants quit, in order to pursue their own dreams of creating their own mangas. Just as he’s nearing his breaking point, the beautiful and scarily competent Shiori Goshiki applies to become his new assistant. But after a small accident after a manga drawing all-nighter together, Goshiki announces that they're now engaged and that she's a Princess?!

I really like this manga! The style of the art is simpler than usually for its genre, but it adds a lot of charm to it. The rest of the characters being drawn in a simpler style makes Goshiki stand out a bit more with her being drawn a bit more detailed. The plot is also very fun! The main character, Kuga, is a hard-working older brother who is doing his best to take care of his younger siblings on his own. I really loved his honest attitude, and his awkward moments with Goshiki were so cute. Goshiki is also a treat of a character. Watching her navigate her new life and freedoms is so fun. Her love for manga is also so fun to see! The story is very much a fun slice of life, with comedy and romance elements to it. There were some hints in their first chapter that there might be a slightly dramatic (or just plain sad) backstory to Kuga, which I'm sure will be touched on in the future. There was also a small line, that I'm sure was just an off-hand line, that smacked me in the heart. "Of course, as much as I love manga, it may not love me so much." Ouch. That feeling of being passionate about a career only to have it be something you can in no way survive working in is a punch to the gut. Kuga also mentions to one of his siblings that he wants them to follow their passion; basically to follow their dreams. It's kind of nice seeing a main character who is both practical and also an optimist. I'll enjoy seeing how Kuga and Goshiki's relationship evolves as the story progresses! The sweet moments they have had so far in this first volume hint that they will have a lovely romance!

I was on the verge of dropping this series due to the potential teacher/student romance, but it wasn't explicitly pursued this volume so I was able to just enjoy the slice of life moments of daddy/daughter bonding, cooking, filleting fish, and enjoying summer vacation. There was even some dramatic tension with an illness and a disruption to the status quo as the restaurant where the cast gathers begins to re-open.

I'll probably come back to this in a couple months and binge the remaining nine volumes. Unless I get distracted by some other shiny object.

Oh, so very, very slow and earnest. Occasionally cute when focused on the daughter, occasionally creepy when friends of the teacher and high school student give tacit approval to what seems to be the start of an inappropriate romantic relationship.

I still have one more from the library, but the chances of me making it the finale in Vol. 12 are quickly falling.

I was hoping this was going to be similar Yotsuba&! as a single father and his daughter bond while learning to cook. While it is slice of life and has some warm and fuzzy daddy/daughter moments, this actually seems to be another of those yucky teacher/student romances that seem so common in manga. The widowed teacher is learning to cook for his daughter with a girl he randomly meets in a park but who turns out to be in his high school classroom. The teenage girl is lonely and has an absent mother who doesn't seem to know or care about the time her daughter is spending in this older man's home.

It's very slow and will probably get creepier as it progresses, but I have a couple more volumes on hand from the library, so I'll see how it goes.

Great slice of life story about a father, daughter, and high school student who all come together to learn how to cook and feel like a family.

Tsumugi has started 1st grade and has a few familiar faces in her class. She's making new friends, playing at Field Day, and even losing a tooth. She's grown up so fast. Kotori is also growing up, but she's trying to decide what she wants to do after high school. And as usual, Kohei is stuck in the middle.

I like that it shows how easily kids get scared by even their own imaginations and how most children fear their parent's disappointment more than anything.

I will say this much. The last chapter made me cry. It was so sweet and sad and happy all at the same time, my emotions couldn't take it. But the Gender-Swap thing at the back was hilarious and adorable.

We're nearing the end of summer! Tsumugi gets a pet, performs some magic, and goes on a trip to great-grannie's house.

In the meantime, we meet Kohei's brother and the girls discuss romance vs. food. Sadly, Kotori is confirmed to like her teacher. But hopefully the rationalization of those feelings will turn them platonic.

Making friends, dealing with family, being a big girl! Tsugumi is turning 6 and she's trying to be a good girl. But life isn't always sunshine and rainbows, even if you're still in preschool. It's good to know that you have friends and family to help you out when you need it.

This series is so cute~! And I want to try and make all the recipes and eat the yummy food. It's a good family story and parents should get a kick out of reading this, too. But the ending...NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED BUT THAT BOY IS AWFUL!

Oh my gosh! Even though Kohei's an adult and Kotori's in high school, all the characters are precious babies~! We even get to meet the other moms at Tsumugi's preschool and Kohei's friend Yagi and Kotori's friend Shinobu. So many new characters to love. We get to see children being children and parents doing their best.

Note: I'm still not sure if this will turn into a teacher-student romance. It hints at the possibility but it could be hinting at Kohei being Kotori's father figure. Hopefully it is the latter and not the former.

A heartwarming story of a single dad and his daughter. After his wife died, he has to take care of their daughter by himself. But he can't cook and he doesn't want to rely on prepackaged food. Then they meet a girl at the park and one thing led to another; she is teaching him how to cook (though she's still learning herself). Surprise! He is her math teacher!

Overall, the story is sweet and charming. There are recipes listed at the end of each chapter for the reader to try. The only concern I have is the potential teacher-student romance. Not a fan. But so far, everything seems safe.

面白いのだが、園児のセリフを書いているのは立派な大人な作者であり、つくられた意外性に面白がっているのは間抜けに思う。
