Right man, wrong century? Feeling trapped between an attraction to her rich, handsome boss and loyalty to her penniless boyfriend, Jessica Jez Skelton hopes a visit to her aunt's house will clear her head. Instead, a box of inherited letters raises the dust of the past-and clouds her present even more. The eighteenth century letters resurrect the tragic love story of Sarah, a woman who was mysteriously erased from the family history. A woman whose love for a rich and powerful lord forms a disturbing parallel to Jez's life. Is it a warning not to succumb to her boss-or risk suffering the same unhappy fate? Piers Cordeaux knows his advances are forcing Jez into a corner, but he can't seem to help himself. Something about her reaches deep inside him, awakening needs that all his money can't satisfy. He can't shake the conviction that they are meant for each other. As Jez tries to ignore her growing attraction to Piers, she is drawn deeper into her ancestor's desperate story. And she begins to wonder if her connection to Piers is an accident.or the work of a ghost whose determination to claim his lady reaches across two centuries of time. Warning: This book contains two love triangles, passion that persists beyond the grave, and dashing heroes who may haunt your dreams. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

Melinda Hammond's [b:Moonshadows|6979487|Moonshadows|Melinda Hammond|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328742646s/6979487.jpg|7221096] is a dual time narrative done just right.
The main timeline is contemporary. Jez is living with her partner Harry in an inherited cottage, studying for a master's degree, and supporting herself by waitressing. As part of her course requirements she interns at the local office of a large company. One day Piers, the owner of not only the company but of an international business empire, shows up at her office and takes an immediate interest in her, gracefully refusing to take no for an answer.
The secondary timeline concerns Sarah, dutiful wife of an 18th century country gentleman, who attracts the attention of Richard, one of the richest and most notorious rakes in high society. Despite having the pick of the nation's most beautiful widows and courtesans, Richard falls in love with Sarah and, like Piers, won't take no for an answer.
Through a series of fortunate discoveries, Jez becomes acquainted with Sarah's story and, increasingly captivated, seeks more information through letters, diaries, parish registers, and even churchyard gravestones.
The more she discovers, the clearer become the parallels between the situations in which the two women find themselves. In slow and tantalising increments, the possibility of a family connection is revealed. In more startling developments, Jez begins to experience disturbingly realistic dreams and waking hallucinations of Sarah and Richard.
It would be a spoiler to reveal how Ms Hammond brings the two timelines together. Suffice to say she does it beautifully. I was mesmerised from the first page and read the novel in one sitting, breathing a deep sigh of satisfaction at the end.
I was particularly impressed by the perfect balance Ms Hammond achieves between the two timelines, and the exquisite timing of the switches between them.
