This collection of classic children's poetry, adapted to music by Natalie Merchant, opens the door to a wondrous world filled with witches and fearless girls, blind men and elephants, giants and sailors and dancing bears. Leave Your Sleep features a daring and delightful selection, ranging from the beloved (e.e. cummings, Edward Lear, and Jack Prelutsky) to the undiscovered (the young Nathalia Crane). Natalie Merchant's brilliant musical renderings, selected from her highly praised album, share the stage with Barbara McClintock's richly imagined art to create a memorable reading, looking, and listening experience.… (altro)

This is a beautiful collection of classic poetry, with wonderful doodles, as well as stunning full page illustrations. This collection also includes a CD which sets the poems to music and turns them into songs, which is another wonderful way for young students to experience the poems.

I really liked this collection. I thought the art went together with the poems really nicely. This collection sounds really good to be read out loud.

This is a book of poetry, poems collected from many authors, time periods, and locations. It includes 'traditional', more known poems like Old Mother Hubbard and works by well-known poets/authors like Robert Louis Stevenson and E.E. Cummings. The collection has mostly rhyming poetry with some narrative poems included. The illustrations bring the poems to life, using children and animals on nearly every page. Many poems are funny and the illustrations for "Topsyturvey-World (William Brighty Rands) will make children laugh a)t the silliness.
Media: colored pencils, pen, marker
Genre: Picture book, poetry ("I am Ebenezer Bleezer, I run Bleezer's Ice Cream Store, there are flavors in my freezer you have never seen before, twenty-eight divine creations to delicious to resist, why not do yourself a favor, try the flavors on my list" ( )

I liked this book for many reasons. The first reason is the illustrations were captivating, and well drawn. Each poem in this book had a very detailed, simple picture to describe the poem to the reader. The detail in the pictures was engaging. The second reason is the language is patterned. The patterned of most of the poems was ABCB. For example, "The beggar took the baby, Wrapped it in a shawl--, 'Bring her back,' the lady said, 'next time you call.' The words shawl and call rhyming is a pattern that engages readers. The main idea of this book is about the conversations the author had with her daughter the first six years of her life. ( )
