Brenner's book tells the reader, like the title suggests, what life was like in 1492. Brenner examines every aspect of life from food and clothing, education, entertainment, health, and many other facets. The reader gets a true sense of what people living during this time went through. Each of these topics are divided into chapters; at the end of each chapter, the author writes about Christopher Columbus in reference to chapter.
I think this book would be a good supplemental book or reference book for a social studies classroom. The author goes into detail about every aspect of life during this time period. The illustrations used are actual portraits and maps from the time period. ( )

I enjoyed traveling back in time and thinking about what it would be like to be around in 1492. Time was so different then, and it is amazing how much the world has changed. ( )

This book is set up like a text book. It tells what was going on in the year 1492 and the relationship between America and Europe. Each chapter covers a different aspect from education to the monarchy to the founding of America. I think this would be a cute textbook-like reference for students in American history. I would maybe tack on a project and give each student or group a chapter from this book and present a project on it. ( )
