The Third Reich had the most technologically advanced and innovative weapons industries in World War II, with aircraft, tanks and bombs that could match and beat anything else in the World. What is less known is the extent of Germany's secret weapons development. Germany pioneered rocket and jet-propelled aircraft, the pilotless plane, long-range rocket technology and 'robot bombs', and the world's first super-heavy tanks. Many of these weapons had a real impact on the course of the war. Following the invasion of the Soviet Union and the realisation that the war could continue for years, Hitler put great resources into the development of new and technologically advanced weaponry, in the belief that the production of 'wonder weapons' were the key to winning the war. Hitler's Secret Weapons gets behind this little-know aspect of the Nazi war machine to reveal the real extent of German secret weapons' development. Broken down by weapon types, the book includes exhaustive reference tables, diagrams, maps and charts, presenting all the core data in easy-to-follow formats. Hitler's Secret Weapons is an essential reference guide for anyone interested in the history and make-up of Germany's secret weapons industry. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

It is fascinating to think that without the advancements made by German engineers and scientists in WWII such as V weapons, America would never have stood a chance of beating the Russians to the moon; or without the German development of the the jet engine or Horton wing, the US would not have had a stealth bomber. The latter in particular I find humourous since the stealth bomber was hailed as a wonder of late 1980's early 1990's American military manufacture, yet the concept had already been designed and developed by the Horton brothers decades before the US even thought of stealth or a flying wing.
Overall this is an excellent overview of German weaponry and manufacture that illustrates the high level of skill and quality we have come to associate with German engineering...thankfully the Porsche Motor Company no longer manufactures super heavy tanks, nor do Hoechst and Bayer produce lethal nerve agents.
