This story tells a little elephants process in getting ready to sleep over at her gramma’s, then it shows all the activities her gramma and her do together like paint and read story. Then it shows them falling asleep at the end of the day. I want to start out why I like this book. This book is important to me because it reminds me of all the fun times I had my grandmas and how much she means to me. This book is pretty much about a day of a grandma and granddaughter having a great day together. They dance the paint and they have a Ricky Ricky swing that they rested together in. I think this would be a great book to read with your grandma or with your grandchild. Sleepover at Gramma's House follows a young elephant, referred to as Granddaughter, who is preparing to spend the night at her grandmother elephant's, Gramma, house. The little elephant packs toys, her pajamas, and skips her way to her relative's. There, they have a small party with decorations, hats, and even take a bath. At the end of the night, they watch the rain outside on the porch and cuddle up with one another. Something I really appreciated and thought to be a great strength of Joosse's book is the illustrations done by Jan Jutte. While the text and story are very jazzy and emotive, Jutte's imagery is able to match and level up to the whimsy, playful plot. Particularly with the main character, Granddaughter, she plays with repetition in order to convey movement (i.e. instead of having one page with Granddaughter at one side of the page mid-motion and on another at the final destination, she is shown more as a motif in various positions and gestures to show she is actually MAKING a journey). I think that this encourages children to think more abstractly and even pushes them to think in terms of visual cues because while at first the illustrations are not static and linear, they do follow a more childlike portrayal of the world, which is eclectic and sporadic. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
