I had never heard of writer/artist David Lapham prior to reading this, but found out later he was the much-hyped creator behind "Stray Bullets," which I've never read but had certainly heard plenty about. Well, not thinking that this story would be anything special but just a free read that my friend had given to me (and he hadn't read it either,) I can now say I very much regret not starting at the beginning. The story is loopy enough where maybe joining for the final third only added to its mysterious, abstract journey. It made me think of if Philip K. Dick had written a young rock odyssey with his signature shattered perspectives, realities and interpretations. This graphic novel is a very fun, strange story involving an insane rock star and his quest to get to the bottom of the bizarre events constantly interrupting his life. With a dark sense of humor, surreal tone and deep ideas, the book is a great romp of swirling post-modern existentialism. ( )
