For Lent 2015, I tackled a book I picked up at some book sale years ago: The Saints That Moved The World. It's a biography of five saints (Anthony of Egypt, Augustine, Francis of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, and Teresa of Avila), with each one getting their own section. While they all led fascinating lives, the narration came across as clunky and stilted (whether that's the original author's fault, or that of the translator, I can't say). There's also not a whole lot of disbelief about any of the stories attributed to the saints -- like Anthony and the lions, or Teresa and her numerous visions -- so it's perhaps a better read if you're already a believer than if you want a more factual and critical biography. (I thought the word hagiography is apropos, as Wikipedia notes it is often used when "authors are perceived to be uncritical or reverential to their subject.")
