Short stories, some with C.D. Sloane and some with others. I like Tyler. And somehow Crosby seems to have developed at least a little brain in the short stories - it would be nice to see it show up in the novels as well. Twice he picks up on Sloane's hints, once actually having an insight that Sloane had missed, and once he's given a case by himself and (more-or-less) resolves it. Improperly - his grasp on police procedure is weak at best - but it worked. Nice to see some development there. ( )
Anthony Mainwaring Heber-Hibbs knew to a nicety the moment at which to step out from under the shelter of the canopy outside the airport lounge and into the hot sun of Lasserta. (The Widow's Might)
The little girl lay motionless at the foot of the east turnpike stair. (Handsel Monday)
"You're wanted, Seedy." (Preyed in Aid)
The moment he stepped inside the door of the inn, Christopher Helmsdale knew for certain that he was wrongly dressed for the place. (A Different Cast of Mind)
"What you need to do, Sloan," said Superintendent Leeyes testily, "is to teach that young Constable of yours exactly what constitutes evidence and what doesn't." (Examination Results)
