I love the characters , the major and minor and even the gods. The plot is like one of those road movies with the main guys travelling and trying to escape the many bad guys set on them by the gods. Now the nothing is out there I'm looking forward to the next book. It aint tolkein but it's enjoyable. a fun romp of a book with a swordswoman called Cheyne teaming up to protect a thief on the run called Kranig as they flee the city of Montane and look for adventure. On the way their lives are tangled together and endangered by the sooky pantheon of gods they don't believe in who are using them in a game to sort out who is the greater god. The fun is in the dialogue and the dumbass situations the two get into and the way the gods' plans never quite work because they are opposed by a higher (or lower) power. a parody almost of fantasy books, but at the same time it follows conventions but twists them and all the while having a good time. When it get's serious it still works. Its a serious world but the main characters refuse to take life seriously and as we follow them its all along for the ride. Kind of a buddy road movie type of book. The next one should be a hoot now the main protagonist is out in the open and the stakes in the game are raised. A picaresque roadtrip of a fantasy book that takes the cliches and has fun with them while at the same time being a good read in itself. The main characters, Kranig the thief and Cheyne the swordswoman, are the stereotypes that poke fun at the genre while following their own paths through a worldframe where gods are everywhere and exist because of belief. As the two are atheists, they are out of the gods' reach in a game of conversion so other pawns are brought in to harass the two on their journey. I loved the main characters and the entwining of the others as they hunted them out, and the banter is a big part of the charm of these two. Their accidental stumblings against the kindergartenish gods, and then the reason behind this really makes me want the second book to hurry up and get printed. This is the second cover in the series - my husband bought it for me when I loaned out the other one and didn't get it back! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
