I found this book to be very informative and I think it would be helpful to anyone (caregivers, physicians, advocates) who are involved with the elderly. Elder abuse really isn't talked about to often, and this book does a great job of explaining what it is, what to do if you find yourself in the situation, and how anyone can help put an end to it. The book is written very well and is very easy to understand.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is caring for an elderly person.

Ending Elder Abuse is a very informative book for individuals that are considering admitting their loved one into a full care facility. This book is also very good for those whose loved ones may already be in a full care facility. It is an easy read meaning you can read it in a few hours. It is heart wrenching as she relays the abuse her mother endured. ( )

As someone who works in the Senior Care industry, this book was helpful. It is very important to research a facility before you trust your loved one in their care. This books gives you the basics for protecting your loved ones from elder abuse. This is a topic which will become more and more important in the future. I thought the family care plans and resources in the back of the book would be helpful to families looking to place their loved one in a senior care facility. With the way the senior care industry is constantly changing, this book will need revised as needed. ( )

I finally had a chance to read this book & I'm really glad I did. It helps to explain much of the things that are happening now with our mom. She's not in a home or anything, but my brother is staying with her. She has the beginnings of dementia & we just lost my dad 2 weeks ago. It has really been hard lately, but we promised our parents that they would be at home as long as possible. My dad had 2 strokes which took his speech away. He tried so hard to make us understand him. He finally got to where he had to have complete care & that's where the roles reversed. This book gave me insight on why things were happening & how to cope. I hate the thought that someone could abuse an older person & this book really gives good pointers as what to watch for & who to contact if there is a problem. This book is very worthwhile reading if you have elderly family members that are being taken care of in a nursing home or wherever. I would highly recommend this one to everybody. Thanks so much. This book is really three books in one -- The story of Diane Sandell's campaign to end elder abuse after her mother was beaten in a California nursing home, her advice for advocates and caregivers, and a guide for choosing long term care for an elderly person. It is this last part -- and its appendices -- that has the most practical information. Much of this could be condensed (and updated) on a website or in a magazine article, though the book may be a good introduction for those who know little about elder abuse. ( )
