" I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing-That is was all started by mouse." -Walt Disney. Walt disney was one of the most influential humans in American culture. Despite going bankrupt many times, Walt never lost sight of his dream. He overcame many obstacles, but always found the light in at the end of the tunnel. Even while working for the red cross, in France, during WWI disney found ways to make money using his artistic gifts. Walt's legacy will forever impact our lives and for that we can forever be grateful. ( )

Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December 5, 1901. Walt Disney attended the Art Institute in Kansas, that is when he knew that animation was his calling. The first cartoon that Walt Disney drew was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and when that became a hit, he started drawing Mickey Mouse. In 1928, he created the first silent animation film staring Mickey Mouse called "Plane Crazy." Walt Disney then married the love of his wife, Lillian Bounds on July 13, 1925. With the help of friends and family, Walt Disney developed his first film called "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a big hit, Walt Disney decided that he would start his dream project. That dream project was called Disneyland. "The television show was titled Disneyland to get children and their families excited about the theme park Walt Disney was planning" When Disneyland first opened on July 17, 1955, the parks were flooded with guests. Then Disney spent $5 million dollars for 43 square miles of swampland near Orlando, Florida, this will later be called Walt Disney World. But the man that created EPCOT would not live to see it, nor would he enjoy the opening of the entire theme park. His heavy smoking habit had resulted in lung cancer, which he died from on December 15, 1966. The park, named after him, opened in October of 1971. But in the end, Disney will be remembered most for the little black mouse he created when animation was still in its infancy.
This chapter book was more informational than the picture book that I read on Walt Disney. The picture book had more pictures about all his animations. It was great to see the pictures, but the picture book could have gone into more detail of his life. If I had to read these two books again, I would definitely recommend the chapter book. ( )

I found myself finished reading this book in less than an hour because I was so drawn into the story of Walt Disney. This biography was very easy to read and had lots of information about Walt Disney and all of his amazing creations. As the reader, I learned about Walt's childhood and how he grew up, I learned about his family life and my favorite thing was learning about all the cartoon's he drew up and came up with. We also we able to see all the hard times he went through and what led him to such major success. Children can definitely learn from this book to never give up what you're good at or your dreams. It's so amazing how this one person created all of these things in his lifetime. I was really sad when I found out he had lung cancer and passed away before the second park, Disney World, was finished, but I think if he were to see Disney World today he would be very satisfied and happy with how it turned out. Walt Disney is a legend and will be forever remembered for his artist ability and his creative mind. ( )

"Walt Disney Entertainment Visionary" by Martin Gitlin was a very interesting story about the life of Walt Disney. The Book consists of ten chapters each one containing important information leading to the creation of the lovable Disney World. This 95 page story is an edge of your seat biography only leaving the reader wanting more and having you wondering why a great man had to leave us so soon. The book contains information about Disney's childhood, the troubles he had to go though to be a success, the depression he went through for years, the family he raised, the empire he built, and the death of a legend. This story will tell you no matter how many adversities you go through in your life to keep trying and you will have success. Walter Disney was a great man and by chapter 10 you will find yourself sad if not crying. This book is readable at the 5th or 6th grade level, but I recommend it to anyone over the age of 10 or anyone who has ever heard of Mickey Mouse. ( )

Biography about Walt Disney and his journey to success. A little simple to read, and a few details were blurred. Overall a good book for a middle school student to use a source for a paper. ( )
