The comparison others have made to Jasper Fforde's Nursery Crime series is a fair one. Overall, I found this to be a fun, light read; and I'm looking forward to the next one. The notion of a pig detective is as far as I am aware a unique one. Bob Burke has invented a fairy tale world with a new spin on Aladdin and Jack Horner, Grumpy the dwarf and one of the Billy Goats Gruff. A light fun read ,similar in many ways to the books of Jasper Fforde and which will neither tax your brain nor I suspect stay long in your memory. No outright laughs, but plenty of wry grins. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

A rather silly detective story in the spirit of Jasper Fforde.Harry Pigg, the only surviving brother from the Big Bad Wolf attacks, has set up business as a private detective in Grimmtown, only things aren't going too well. Down on his luck, with bills to pay and no clients in sight the outlook is poor. But then in walks local businessman Aladdin who needs someone to help him track down an old lamp. What follows is a case of nursery rhyme-noir. Funny, thrilling and always entertaining, Harry Pigg is an old breed of hero for a new generation. It's as if Humphrey Bogart or James Cagney had walked into the middle of a bedtime story.A comedy caper for all ages. The first in a major new series. Lots of tongue-in-cheek in-jokes for the fairy and folk tale fans, and a nice plot twist at the end.
It would have rated higher except:
1) I wish it had been longer.
2) Harry's gumshoe jargon was a little wearying.
Other than that, an enjoyable read. ( )
