This is a beautiful book. Gorgeous pictures and lovely writing. A sweet story, not as melancholy as it first appears. A spare, short story that manages to convey a lot. I appreciate how the aunt seems to be respectful of Jemima’s feelings.

Highly recommended for readers/listeners who enjoy books about orphans, the seasons/the changing seasons, reassuring stories about (temporary) goodbyes, places to live that offer a variety of outdoor experiences such as gardening and lake swimming, evocative illustrations.
