I developed a weakness for Eastern European poetry as a result of this book. Herein lies a rare combination: poets who understand the importance of craft itself *and* who have something to say-- critical enough to bother to communicate it to the reader, richly, rather than simply play with the prowess of verbal juxtaposition. Herbert, Milosz, and Holub are gems.
