I liked this book for many reasons. The first reason is because of the characters. The characters are believable and well developed; connecting to what actually happens in the real world when children learn to read. The young girl is the main character who is excited that she has learned to read, "'I can read "Stop". I can read "School." I can read "shop.'" She goes around town pointing to the things she can read to her mom, just as a child would in the real world. The next thing i liked about this book were the illustrations. The illustrations fit the style of the written text and enhanced the mood of the story. For example the quote, "My dad reads to me at bedtime each night. He shows me you read from the left to the right." Above this text there is an illustration of the girl and her dad reading in her bed, and pointing to the pages as they read. Another great, real world example as well. Lastly, I enjoyed the language used throughout this book. The language was conveyed in a rhyming pattern which certainly keeps young readers interested and excited as they read. "The pictures help me read and I look. Hey, Mommy guess what! I read this whole book!" Children who read this book will be just as excited to read this to their parents, as the girl was in the story! In the end, I think that the 'big idea' of this book is to teach young readers about all of the excitement that comes with learning to read, and that reading takes practice but once you get it you'll never forget it! This book is about a young girl learning how to read. Throughout the story, she is reading her own book while demonstrating to her parents how well she can read. This book provides encouragement for children learning how to read.

This book is about a little girl that is learning to read. She is very excited to share her new knowledge with others.

I can remember when I was a little girl, that I was much like this little girl. Reading has always been a very fun hobby for me.

In the classroom I would have pictures of different items with the names of the items written underneath the pictures. The students would go to each picture and try to read the name of each item. Another extention idea would be to have the students draw some picture and write the names of what they drew underneath it. ( )

This little girl demonstrates her basic reading skills while apparently reading her own book. ( )
