EL VAGABUNDO KALI GIBRÁN Nacido en el norte del Líbano, en Becharre, el 6 de enero de 1883, Gibrán Jalil Gibrán está reconocido como el pensador de las primeras décadas del siglo XX en Oriente Medio. Sus biógrafos, en su mayor parte amigos personales, han dejado de él visiones parciales, cuyo denominador común es la búsqueda de la paz y del conocimiento de uno mismo. La obra de Gibrán no constituye un sistema filosófico coherente ni cerrado. Pero no lo pretendía; es más, él mismo renegó de "las tradiciones que nos legaron nuestros antepasados" en el plano de la filosofía para interrogarse más como teólogo que como filósofo. La búsqueda de Dios, que había sido el meollo fundamental de la filosofía árabe antigua desde Averroes, se convierte en la pluma de Gibrán en una paradoja humana. Su primera obra literaria, Espíritus rebeldes, fue quemada en una plaza pública de Beirut por considerarse «libro peligroso y revolucionario»: Gibrán fue desterrado por el gobierno de su país y excomulgado por su iglesia. Ante este mazazo, el poeta da un giro radical: se encierra en sí mismo, volviendo la espalda a aquella realidad tan hostil, y se refugia en los más puros sentimientos de su corazón. I really struggled to finish it, had to think too hard, found it too philosophical. (See quote below for a few sentences that depict what I mean.)
