In a remote corner of the Michigan woods, behind rusted iron gates and crumbling stone walls, lie one of the country's most notorious sanitariums and its forgotten cemetery. From Amazon:

The Florida PI's Thanksgiving plans with his significant other are derailed when Kincaid's foster father, Phillip, asks for his help with a delicate problem. The body of Phillip's youthful love, Claudia Olsen, has disappeared from her coffin, a travesty unearthed in the course of the demolition of the Michigan mental institution where Claudia was committed. Kincaid's search for the missing remains crosses paths with a journalist's pursuit of rumors that a serial killer, who was also a patient at the facility, is still alive and on the loose. Parrish manages to make what could be a formulaic plot fresh, both through her gift at creating sympathetic main and secondary characters and through her skill at creating suspense and sustaining a mood. The author's ability to raise goose bumps puts her in the front rank of thriller writers.

My Thoughts:

In addition to the main story, we get a chance to see more interaction between Louis and his foster parents which revealed them to be more than a pleasant memory to him. The story itself showed the vulnerability of his ideal of his foster father and forced him to realize that he is human with his own faults. While dealing with that subject, Louis is in the middle of another case in the only way he knows how to do it, full bore. The characters run the gamut from the hard nose state trooper to the reluctance accomplice to the "I'm above the law antagonist." We also see Louis take another step in his quest to "know" himself and hopefully the author will push him even more in the next book. It is a definite page turner and previous readers should enjoy it. First time readers should also enjoy it; but might want to start at the 1st book to see how Louis got to the place and time he is at now. ( )

I have two words to describe the 7th novel in the Louis Kincaid Series. Just spectacular! The two ladies who make up P.J. Parrish have outdone themselves. I read A Thousand Bones, the 8th in the series last week. I thought it was outstanding too. I seem to be reading the series in reverse for some reason. Truthfully I ordered all the books, and they didn’t all arrive together, so I’ve been reading them as I receive them. If it’s reverse so be it! I just can’t wait to read them. I don’t care what order they’re in.An Unquiet Grave is a chilling thriller. The scenes with Louis in the underground tunnels of the asylum, just how they are described sounds like he’s in a horror movie. The characters, even the secondary ones were so well developed. I think this book would be awesome made into a movie. I am so looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Whatever order they may be in. ( )

PI Louis Kincaid is asked by his stepfather to find an old girl friend. The women Claudia Olsen died in a sanitarium many years before. A serial killer from the sanitarium killed her and the doctors covered it up because they were actually selling the babies from the rapes committed by this murderer.

In the end Claudia is found alive. ( )
