Believing the X-Men to be dead, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat vow to keep the dream alive alongside Captain Britain and the metamorphic Meggan - but the Warwolves have Phoenix on the run and she leads them to London, right into the formation of the X-Men's first foreign franchise! The Warwolves are on our heroes like a cheap suit (or is it the other way around?) and Chris Claremont doesn't waste any time in setting up the labyrinthine plots his fans know him best for! I love everything about this series. It is so great. Fun, and poignant classic X-Men stories with a bit of a British twist. ( )

After the death of the majority of the X-Men, Shadow Cat and Nightcrawler form Excalibur with Captain Britain and Meggan in England. I decided to give this a read after reading a blurb about Megann on Dime Store Dames.

I'm not sure if it's because I had read the blurb on Megann or if the book is just written this way but to me this was about Megann and Captain Britain's failing relationship and Shadow Cat's frustration with her "broken" powers. The building of the team and the rest of their adventures seem incidental (nothing negative on Night Crawler, but even his story seemed very focused on Meggan). With all of the interpersonal drama this almost felt more soap opera then super hero genre at times.

The art style of the book speaks to the time period when it was drawn. ( )

Kitty Pride. Toss-turn, fidget to and fro, tick-tock, the clock--time drags, slower by the minute, through a night that lasts forever.
