Being undead sucks. Literally.

Just ask C. Thomas Flood. Waking up after a fantastic night unlike anything he's ever experienced, he discovers that his girlfriend, Jody, is a vampire. And surprise! Now he's one, too. For some couples, the whole biting-and-blood thing would have been a deal breaker. But Tommy and Jody are in love, and they vow to work through their issues.

But word has it that the vampire who initially nibbled on Jody wasn't supposed to be recruiting. Even worse, Tommy's erstwhile turkey-bowling pals are out to get him, at the urging of a blue-dyed Las Vegas call girl named (duh) Blue.

And that really sucks.

La vendetta del diavolo di Joe Hill (BookshelfMonstrosity)
BookshelfMonstrosity: If you like the darkly humorous aspects of Horns, you may like You Suck. Like Horns, You Suck has paranormal elements, and the protagonist has to cope with newly found powers after a mysterious occurrence.

Who's Afraid of Beowulf? di Tom Holt (Dr.Science)
Dr.Science: The English author Tom Holt is relatively unknown in America, but very popular in England. If you enjoy Jasper Fforde or Christopher Moore you will most certainly enjoy Tom Holt's wry sense of English humor and the absurd. He has written a number of excellent books including Expecting Someone Taller, and Flying Dutch, but they may be difficult to find at your library or bookstore.… (altro)

Well, I found this one in my wife’s Audible library, I didn’t know it was number two in a series of books. Well, every time this happens, I’m reminded why I avoid series books like the plague. I absolutely hated the two lead characters; I was hoping that at least they would both be dead by the end of the book but then I found out it was part of a series about these two unlikeable idiots and was about to DNF this one then Abby Normal was introduced and I decided to keep going. Frankly, I wish the author had decided to focus exclusively on her the whole book rather than what he did especially since I didn’t give a rat’s ass about the characters that were carried over from the other book (Blood-Sucking Fiends I guess). Oh, and the author spits in the reader’s face by not ending the damned story! The book just stops all the while a big fight/congregation of all the characters is seemingly building. Seriously, avoid this garbage and if you don’t just read the Abby Normal narrated parts.
To be clear, I do not recommend this one at all. A much better take on this type of story is An Unattractive Vampire by Jim McDoniel. This book SUCKS! ( )

Hmm, mixed thoughts on this book.

It's the second in a series, and I havent read the first. For once I did feel I suffered by not having read the first book, as there are the same characters (it seems) and much history carried forward from the previous book.

on the other hand, was amusing in parts, especially how Goth and vampire social moires (such as kids having grown up with Buffy and Dracula being confronted with "real" vampires, who in turn have only been undead for a matter of weeks or months - not centuries).

Did get all a little messy in the end, and there are characters who turn up who I have idea who they are (see re book 1 hangovers) ( )

Hilarious, though not quite as funny as the Death stories.
this one does put some more satyr in the satire. ( )

Moore's been a favorite of mine ever since I discovered The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, but it took me a long time to get around to this one. For some reason, the first book in this series--Bloodsucking Fiends--didn't hit me in the same vein (okay, Moore got to me, I can't help punning...) as his others. This second in his vampiric series was no different. His irreverent, bizarre, hilariously strange characters and jokes and twists are as present in this book as others, but there's just an extra twist of non-PC dark that I don't enjoy so much as I do in his other books, despite the fact that I love horror.

So, in the end, this was a fun read, but probably not a book I'll come back to. It's certainly not the one I'd recommend for someone trying Moore for the first time--leave that to Lamb or A Dirty Job or the book I mentioned above, Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cover. Because while there's nothing particularly wrong with his vampire books, they just don't seem to have the same level of fun life that his others do, one way or another. ( )

As with his best work, there’s a fundamental sweetness beneath the antics. And the characters are developed with real affection. That most of them are dead is never allowed to seem sad. And for parasitical bloodsuckers, they do remarkably little harm.

Susan Bennetts' sassy reading is a perfect fit for Moores satirical story and sarcastic dialogue.
