From my first look at the cover of the book, I thought "tin man" from the Wizard of Oz. I don't know if it's my mood or what, but the message in this book seems too blatant and "in your face". I love the illustrations, and the whole idea of the bird giving life to this robot who is missing his heart, but couldn't more be left up to personal interpretation? This book is about a robot that is sent to the scrap pile because he has a broken heart. He stays there through the seasons until one winter day a small blue bird happens to land on his shoulder. The bird is freezing cold and would have died if the robot had not let the bird stay in his chest where his heart used to be. The robot begins to feel alive. He feels a flutter in his chest where he used to have a heart. The bird needs to go south for the winter but is still too week. The robot offers to carry the bird and they take off together. The robot finally arrives but is too weak to go on. He sacrificed himself to save the little bird. I liked this book. It has a great message about serving others and not giving even though you feel that you have nothing to offer or your heart is broken. This has a slight resemblance to the tin man in the Wizard of Oz. In the classroom, you might be able to use this in a unit over robots or possible over weather or seasons. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

A broken robot makes a home for a cold, tired bluebird trying to fly south for the winter, and eventually he carries the bird to a warmer climate while she rests in the cavity where his heart used to be. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

This book makes me cry.
Nice art, though. ( )
