A young boy loves Blast off Bars, and everyday he would have one packed in his lunch. One day he read the label, and it stated that he could win a trip to space camp if he collected 10,000 labels. As news travelled fast, he started receiving labels from kids around the school. Then he asked the principal to announce at the school. He also took on advertising at local stores and even made the paper! As his wrappers grew, he developed a counting strategy with multiples of ten.
Personal Reaction: This was definitely a great learning story for students who are learning about the multiples of ten. The end of the book even had a chart which help students recognize the math.
Classroom Extension Idea:
A. An idea in the classroom is to use this book during a multiple of 10's lesson.
B. Another idea is to use the counting strategy the boy used by bundling candy in different ways. (
