The main character of this story, Haybillybun, is like most kids who are new to starting school. Starting school can be very difficult for some kids and I believe this is probably a great book for those kids who are nervous about starting school. This book can show the kid that they are many others who are just like them and they'll enjoy making new friends. It's also great to see that Joan Rankin not only wrote but illustrated the book as well. ( )

The first day of school ignites fear, dread, and excitement in adults and children alike. This is a story about a mother and son who must both embrace the distance that will be placed between them when the little boy goes off to school. It also deals with the insecurities children face when beginning school, or a switching to a new school. "Will I be accepted?" is always the biggest worry, and this story attempts to put those fears to rest. ( )

First Day is about a boy named Haybillybun who did not want to go school on the first day. He was making up excuses about how his ears were too fluffy or how his eyes were too scary, in hopes that his mother would let him stay home. Unfortunately for Haybillybun, he still had to go. His mother dropped him off and she went home to do some chores around the house. As she was doing chores, she started to miss Haybillybun. She thought that he was too little for school, so she dropped everything she was doing to go see him. As she got to school and peeked into the window, she saw that Haybillybun was having a great time. When the school day was over and Haybillybun saw his mother, he was glad that he went. School was not what he expected, and he could not wait until the next day of school.
This book teaches a lesson that things may seem intimidating and scary at first, but it may not always turn out the way we think. Haybillybun thought school was going o be horrible, and it turned out to be amazing. Reflecting this on my life, I can relate to how Haybillybun feels about starting the first day of a new school year, or the first day of a new job. Children may feel the same way as Haybillybun on their first day of school too, which is why I think this story can be relatable to anyone at any age.

Haybillybun was about to start his first day of school and wasn't to thrilled about it. He kept making excuses up of why he couldn't go to school. But his mother was encouraging him to go. He also wasn't too fond of how long his name is so he just wanted to go by bun instead. Once Haybillybun and his mother got to school, he meet the other classmates and his mother went home. When his mother was doing housework, she started to miss Haybillybun and worry about him. SO she rushed over to the school to check on him. She saw that he was have a blast with the other classmates. WHen he had came home from school, he told his parents about his first day at school. At first Haybillybun didn't want anything to do with going to school but once he got there he enjoyed it. His mother was alright with her baby going to school at the beginning but she missed him and wanted to check on him like mothers do. Books show that first day of school experiences can be scary but at the end of the day you make friends. ( )

A little pup was getting ready for his first day of school. All morning he was trying to get out of it in fear of separation anxiety. He made excuses all the way there and gave his mom instructions on how to treat him when they got there. But once he got there he changed his thoughts and felt completely different. In fact his mother was the one with separation anxiety and she was missing her baby pup and even went to check on him just to find him completely fine. It goes to show that the parents can be worse than the children at the end of the day. ( )
