From Goodreads:
Adapted and illustrated from book by D.J. MacHale. "Merchant of Death" is evil Traveler Mallos, who wants to destroy time-space universe "Hallas", and rebuild with himself in charge. In Denduron "Territory", he sells explosive clay-like "Tak" to peasant Milagos enslaved by fat rich Bedoowans. Bobby Pendragon 14, writes manuscripts for his friends Courtney and Mark back on Second Earth, transmitted by magic ring. Travelers via wormhole "Flume", Uncle Press, warriors calm Osa and her daughter fierce Loor, and puppyish knight Alder team up to save Denduron and all Hallas from Mallos, the Merchant of Death, and "Quigs" monsters, who both change appearances in different Territories.

I think this story doesn’t translate all too well from book to graphic novel. I didn’t really understand what the hell was going on. It was very confusing with the flumes and different worlds. Why Bobby? Who’s Press? What the fuck is going on? But I did enjoy the artwork very much. I think I need to read the actual novel to get my answers. ( )

Well, this is certainly the quick way to be introduced the Pendragon series. This is a decent graphic novel, though it can be a little hard to follow the story-line, the pictures aren't always easy to interpret, particularly the layout of the land... But, essentially, this is the story of how a boy discovers his true destiny to save worlds, told through his letters to friends back 'home' on earth. He has no interest in being a hero, but rises to the occasion when the need is pressing. It wasn't fantastic; I'm now just curious about the books. ( )

I am not sure how I feel about this one. I started the book at one time before and thought it interesting. The Graphic Novel seems so short compared to the size of the book but maybe I am wrong. Characters were not that defined and the story went to quick. I almost feel like I am missing something. Artwork was decent and captured what was there of the story and characters. I would probably be interested in reading the next one in the series but maybe in regular book format. ( )

This and book 2 are good adaptations of the novel of the same name. The story is an entertaining adventure with lots of creative elements that work well together. The characters are likable and the shift between worlds adds variety. The graphic novel version lends itself well to this fast passed novel though there are differences. Nevertheless both versions will be a hit especially with male readers. The art is in black-and-white and very strong and dynamic which suits this action adventure well. Like the book the ending leaves lots of room for sequels with the same antagonists and protagonists. Recommended. ( )

GN kept true to the original novel. Action packed, good b&w illustrations.
