Just a gentle, sweet read, where the worst problem is finding a replacement for the school cleaning lady.
But I so enjoy Miss Read's sense of humor, for example ...

We are very proud of our local author, and he is generous with his time and money. Also, a great point, he is always brief when speaking, and this has endeared him to us all.
I also like her for her lovely passages such as this ....
Listening to the music of 'leaves drinking rain', as W.H. Davies put it, I remembered reading that the Chinese, in ancient times, planted large-leaved trees like the banana for the express purpose of hearing the pattering of rain upon them. The Chinese have always been wise enough to recognise that the minutiae of natural things can enrich life.
(By the way, I read this as a free-standing novel, not in the omnibus that is pictured, but the selection system gave me no option for a single hardcover book of this title.) ( )
