This is probably one of the best reboots of a classic comic book "superhero team" to come out at the time, with a complete overhaul of the original Challengers of the Unknown (and those baggy purple jumpsuits) that placed the silver-age characters into modern day as middle-aged men having gone their separate ways after a tragedy that results in the death of thousands, including some of the team members. The eight-issue limited series collected in this graphic novel follows the paths the remaining members take, their own journeys being an exploration of self among other things, as these are people who identified mainly as a group after surviving a plane crash together, and so they must find themselves before they can find each other again and confront the source of the tragedy that drove them apart.

The storytelling is slightly disjointed and non-linear the way some modern comics began to get around the turn of the century, adding to that post-silver-age feel, and the art manages to capture the classic look of those originals comics while still updating it for a more modern presentation. If you're a fan of some of the off-center projects that came out offshoot presses like Vertigo during this time period, you'll agree that the Challengers of the Unknown Must Die! ( )
