They followed the patrons from the original songs with little tripping over the tongue that can normally happen with parodies. The illustrations are Gris Grimly and fit perfectly. My favorite illustration is from I’ve been running over road toads, but my fav song is 99 bottles of blood. #WinterGames2020 #TeamReadNosedReindeer +16 I adored this book so much! First, I liked this book because the text is written to be read in the tune of popular children’s songs. For example, the page with the song “Home of the Strange” detailed in it was to be read to the tune of “Home on the Range.” This made the cadence of the book flow well for me even though each page was read to the tune of a different song and it made me reread the pages for the enjoyment of the spooky changes to the popular songs. Another reason I adored this book is for its spooky and gory illustrations. For example, on the page with the song “Do Your Guts Hang Low?” there is an illustration of a zombie with his guts laying all over the page with parts being eaten by a crow and some tangling up another zombie which goes along with the text of that page. For me, reading songs to familiar tunes is fun enough, but seeing all the spooky drawings along with the songs made reading it more enjoyable and kept me on each page longer so that I could see the illustrations in their entirety. I also loved this book for the eerie front and back cover. If you were to open the front and back cover and look at them together, you would notice that they depict one picture of several monsters and ghouls sitting around a campfire and surrounded by spooky creatures. The font of the title is drawn to look like slime as well. This interesting cover is what initially drew me to this book because it was so scary to look at. Overall, the big idea of this book was to provide the reader with scarily different versions of popular children’s songs to show how the meaning and tone of a song can be changed by simply altering the lyrics of the tune. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
