While the story is interesting, it comes off as more of a Hodge-Podge of ideas that H.P. was playing with than an actual story. First it was the Ivory Idol, then it was the Dolphins and the People going Mad, then it was the Obelisk in the bottom of the sea, then it was the Lost City of Atlantis, and then it was a Cult in the Lost City of Atlantis. This series lacked cohesion, and sounded like Lovecraft was making it up as he went along, ending off with more questions than answers; questions that I was neither compelled nor interested in solving. ( ) This one is interesting, and the sense of humor is back. Set on a WWI German U-boat, the claustrophobia and paranoia of the captain serve to make his deep sea discovery actually somewhat creepy.
