THE WOMAN HE'S SWORN TO FORGET Caine O'Roarke worked alone and he liked it that way. Romantic entanglements had no place in a mercenary's world. He'd made only one mistake: Lexie Hollister, the boss's daughter. Forbidden in more ways than one. Walking out on her had been best for all concerned. THE BABY HE NEVER KNEW Nearly a year had passed when Lexie's father called on Caine to rescue Lexie from war-torn San Rafael. Little did he know that she was no longer alone. She now had a two-month-old daughter--his daughter. A FUTURE OUT OF REACH? It was Caine's most important mission. Could he succeed as protector of his family and bring his woman and child home? Into the Storm #1
Caine O’Rourke and Lexie Hollister were a couple eleven months before this book begins. For a number of reasons their relationship abruptly ended only to be given a second chance when Lexie’s father requests that Caine bring her home to safety from a country falling into war. Caine agrees, for his own reasons, and finds that the past eleven months have changed Lexie in many ways. The chemistry is still there and Lexie has taken on new responsibilities and has matured a great deal. But whether or not they can have a HEA ending will depend on getting Lexie and her two month old baby through the jungle to safety without being captured by El Cuchillo.
I really enjoyed this story. I kept thinking about insects and how they devour me and hoped they had insect repellent, for instance or wondered about just how many calories one would need to sustain a nursing mother on horribly long treks through dense jungle heat BUT those things are really not the issue in a second chance love story…not really…it is about reconnecting and caring and loving and this couple had to regain trust and find a way forward.
I enjoy this author’s books and believe this reedit from her 1996 version printed by Harlequin is great. I have not read that version but did find this one to be relevant and current and definitely a fun read.
Thank you to the author for the copy to read and review. This is my honest opinion.
