Reading the first few pages, I felt as if reading through the Australian accent would be a struggle for me. As it got easier, and I got more into the story, I was reminded by a discussion in an undergraduate Writing class. We were debating how strong a dialect voice should be in fiction, and I said that I thought it really amounted to how much the reader was willing to go with it. Sue Wilson, young and Aboriginal, escapes her 'too-large, too-poor family in a too-small' north Queensland town for Logan City's frontier sprawl. Entering 'the mythic world of Work' she discovers that the view from behind the bar is less than glamorous, but pays the rent. When she meets Roger the good times begin to roll until she finds herself starring in a feature with medium level violence. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
