Summary:
Timothy and the Strong pajamas is a great book for young children! It tells the story of a young cat, who has an incredible pair of pajamas his mother has sewn for him. These are not just any old PJs, these bed clothes make him strong and allow him to save the day! An entertaining book that teaches us to use our strengths for good. It is best suited for probably grades K-3.

Personal Reaction: Wonderful book! I really liked the bright illustrations and large words. I would use this book for maybe a bedtime story if I were a parent. As a teacher, this is something I would think about using for pajama day during Red Ribbon Week.

Classroom Extension: Again, something that would be very fun to read on a Pajama Day at school. Students could create (color, or use a template if one was provided) their own set of pajamas and could write down what type of super power it gives them and what they would use that super power for. ( )

Timothy Smallbeast isn’t very big or strong until his favorite fixes his favorite pair of pajamas. All the extra reinforcements his mother put on the pajamas have made Timothy strong, too! With the help of his best friend, a sock monkey, Timothy begins using his superhero strength for good. In one day alone he saves an elephant, a princess, an old lady, some sailors, a zoozeeper, and a kitten in distress. As he and Monkey are walking home, they happen upon an upset bear who has lost his way. He needs to go back to his home in the woods to hibernate, but he can’t find the way. Timothy carries the exhausted bear back to his home and the bear falls asleep right on top of Monkey! Timothy tries to save Monkey, but his pajamas rip and his superhero strength disappears. Luckily, the people Timothy saved rush to his rescue and soon Timothy is back home with his mother.

The text is full of wonderful adjectives and onomatopoeias that make this story a wonderful book for reading aloud. Monkey and other characters chime in with humorous asides in small speech bubbles throughout the story. The illustrations utilize every inch of available space and many pages are divided into sections that help to keep the quick pace of the story.

Awesome, maybe a little long for storytime, read as an opener. Timothy loves his pajamas they are his favorite, when they get ripped his mom fixes them and makes them super strong. The super-strong patch job imbues them with super powers and Timothy becomes a superhero. After he saves the day multiple times he takes a bear home, the bear sits on his favorite monkey, his pajamas rip, he loses his superpowers. Lucky for him all the animals he helped during the day come back to help him. Also, mom patches the favorite pajamas again. Yay! ( )

This is a clever story about a pair of pajamas that give the main character superhero strength, with his stuffed monkey providing the comic relief. I only wish the main character had solved the problem at the climax by finding some inner strength and realizing he didn't need the pajamas. I also think it could have been edited to be a little shorter because it felt a little too long. For example, we could have been introduced to the character as having the superhero strength pajamas right off the bat, instead of hearing all about how he got them.

The illustrations were adorable, especially that monkey! ( )

My son loves this book. He was so inspired by it that he tried to rip up his pajamas so I could sew him SUPER STRONG PAJAMAS. Fortunately his pjs were indestructible. ( )
