This is a quick read about Henry Hudson and his search for the Northwest Passage. Although it is a series book from "In the Footsteps of Explorers" it is a good book to use in the classroom when studying The Age of Exploration. The print is large and the pages are attractively displayed. The author provides information that would appeal to students such pictures of weevils and someone suffering from frostbite. There are historical illustrations as well as modern color photography that complements the material in the text. The Content page is organized in an interesting, chronological manner. The headings for each section are bold and draw the reader to the page. The book gives a very brief history of Hudson and his travels, but it would be very useful in an elementary classroom. The author includes a glossary of terms and students could easily read this book on their own. I plan to use this book next year in my social studies class; I wish I had located it sooner! It is even an Accelerated Reader book which might encourage even more students to read it. ( )
