Sad in many ways, but reminded me of "Life is Beautiful" (movie) or [b:City of Joy|11690863|Calcutta City of Joy|S.B. We are asked to empathize with, not pity the hero/heroine, who endures so much without losing his/her soul. This is a very important contemporary subject (immigration) and probably always will be. Lupita is a 17 year old girl. She lives with her parents and her brother Salvador. One day she goes to look for her mom at her job and doesn't find her so she goes to look for her at her house and they tell her that her dads dead. They don't have a lot of money so Lupitas mom tells her that she's going to go live with her aunt in the U.S. to find a job and get money. When they arrive at her aunts house, Lupita looks at her aunt and realizes that her aunt is poor too. Lupita always thought that her aunt was rich, well thats what she made them believe. When she comes in her aunt tells Lupita that she cant stay but lupita says she will pay rent so then she lets her stay. At that moment she realized that her aunt was trying to steal her money. So they live there and one day they go to a dance and LA MIGRA catches Salvador and not Lupita. When she goes home she tells her aunt that Salvador was taken back to tijauna by la migra. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Curricular connection - In middle school students study Mexico and Central America this story could be used as a class set to illustrate the struggles of immigrants and spark debate and conversation about immigration reform. It also could be used to highlight Hispanic culture. ( )
