What I found fascinating in this work is the detail on everyday life as well as the political situation - the "frontier" was in fact the whole colony. As a descendant of colonists I appreciated insight into how the "commoners" lived.
In the 1982 introduction to this revised edition, the author notes that research into the roles of the Indian nations will necessitate rewriting of the colonial history - the 2003 "Captors and captives" (Haefeli & Sweeney) incorporates such research, even though only here regarding the 1704 Deerfield raid ( )
