This is the second book about the medieval sleuth Hugh Corbett, who works for the Chancellor of England under King Edward I. Sent to Scotland to investigate the death of the Scottish King Alexander III, Corbett is met with suspicion as he investigates on the orders of his master. The book is rich in historical detail of places, characters, and events. An exciting plot, but at times the character's speculations become complicated, taking over the plot, and slowing the pace of the book a bit.
