I have a slight thing about penguins, so when shopping for a Christmas present for a young relative, decided this was clearly the book to get. And a sneaky read before wrapping (shh - don't tell).
Follows the standard formula of these books, the penguin is wrong for some reason and the image has insert panels of material or texture to make them feel the same as the wrong reason. The penguin images are of different species, some standing, some sliding on them tum, some swimming. Not too taxing, but using texture and words together to engage the child. ( )

That's Not My Penguin is a great beginner book for ages 5-7 that explores various penguins with different textures and incorporates simple, patterned, repetitive language - highly appropriate for sensory development and building language skills. The illustrations are simple and each penguin takes up 1-2 pages allowing for children to visually focus on the images, and the board book is quite sturdy with a size perfect for little hands. Perfect book to get children started on strong reading habits. ( )

Not as splendid as That's not my monster, as the colours aren't as crazy, and the textures aren't as obvious - shiny and rubbery are hard concepts to convey. But the penguins are nicely realistic, ( )

I am learning to turn the pages of this book. There are penguins with silky bits and shiny bits. My favourite is the furry baby penguin. ( )
