The duo are hammering out two of these a year, and it shows. The previous two we’ve read have been cosy, if flawed. But this is just bad: an improbable plot, an utterly unlikely motive, clumsy obvious clues, some really bad editing with new info suddenly popping up from nowhere, and a happy ending I don’t believe for a second. The only thing I liked about this installment in what promises to be a never-ending series, was snuggling up in bed with my son to read it. And for that Widmark and Willis can’t take credit. ( )
