Yo-wee-o! In a milestone picture book, author-illustrator Judith Byron Schachner brings us an inspiring story about making dreams come true, seasoned with a hearty helping of heroic Viking history and lore. Emma is excited as she starts to read about Erik the Red for a school report on world explorers. The excitement grows to epic proportions when she sets her sights on obtaining a real Viking ship. With a tinfoil helmet, a fighting spirit, and the help of a kindly librarian, she hatches a plan . . . and amazes her entire town when an authentic, dragon-prowed ship arrives in her backyard! Rich with details and humor in art and text, this is a tale about the magic of discovery and how far imagination, fueled by knowledge, can take one determined little girl.… (altro)

It is a fantasy book because the whole story is about a girl and her friends trying to find vikings and the dragon, which will not happen nowadays.
A girl, named Emma, are crazy about vikings. She and her best friends try their best to find vikings. Emma believes that viking ship will come on her birthday. Finally, the ship come after her birthday.
It is a story book full of imagination. From the story, we learn that where there is a will, there is a way!

This book is about Emma who develops an interest in Vikings. This book is an example of realistic fiction because it shows how librarians can help students find more information on topics.

This was a beautiful realistic fiction book. Emma is obsessed with Foxes. One day a library asks her if she has heard of Erik the Red Fox. She becomes curious and discover through books that Erik the Fox was a Viking. Emma becomes fixated on obtaining a Viking ship. She sees and ad for a Viking ship on sale, and becomes fixated on purchasing it. The ship arrives at her home and she is the happiest girl in the world. I would use this book to get my students excited about finding things that they love in books. The pastel artwork worked well with the storyline. ( )
