Critique: Overall, this book is a great example of fantasy because the dog takes on human traits and is the little girl's best friend. One way I would use this in the class would be to read it on Valentines day and encourage the students to make cards for their friends.

Another Biscuit story, this one centered on the Valentine holiday. The story is all about making and delivering Valentines - very simple, but young readers will appreciate that. Anyway, the focus is mainly on the illustrations. Biscuit and his other animal friends are adorable, and his owner is a cute little girl. The last fold out page has a huge heart spread across both flaps, which catches the eye and is a great message to read to your children. My little girl enjoys having Biscuit stories read to her, and this makes me like them. I understand why they are a staple in the world of children's literature. Not fantastic stories, but perfectly suited to toddlers. ( )

The little girl and Biscuit make and deliver valentines together, and of course, all sorts of typical Biscuit things happen. Every time we lift the flap, the little girl has another reason to call Biscuit a "silly puppy." In the end, Biscuit and the little girl each get valentines, and the little girl gives Biscuit one, too. ( )
